BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – A Bangor based military unit is deploying to Southwest Asia.
OSACOM operate a small fixed wing aircraft known as a C-12.
They provide air transport to passengers and cargo for the Army and Department of Defense.
There are eight soldiers in the unit. Six will deploy sometime this fall.
Chief Warrant Officer Michael McGovern is an instructor pilot for the unit and has helped train the soldiers for this mission.
“We have four pilots and two operational personal. The operational personnel will be doing the day-to-day. Getting the missions, imputing the missions, getting clearances for other countries. And then the other pilots will be receiving those missions, they do all the flight planning. So every mission we’ve done since the last deployment has actually been training to help us for this next deployment. But our day-to-day work, it really prepares us to do the mission that we’re going to do overseas.”
We’re told the unit has mobilized three times to Afghanistan and Iraq since 2003.
