A forum to discuss ASEAN’s role in peacefully resolving the South China Sea (SCS) conflict will be organised by the Worldfuture Organisation at the Sime Darby Convention Centre in Damansara on 30 August.
Following the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) verdict against China’s historical rights claims in the waters bordering the South China Sea and the Chinese southern coasts, the forum has aptly set ‘ASEAN: Peace And Unity After The PCA Ruling’ as its theme.
The forum aims to inform the Malaysian public of the real issues in the SCS, and ASEAN’s role to ensure peace in the region.
Among the topics to be discussed are achieving ASEAN unity over SCS, move towards acceptance of the PCA ruling by all parties and ways for ASEAN to handle the military buildup within SCS.
Former Foreign Minister, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Syed Hamid Albar, will be in attendance to deliver the keynote speech.
Among the featured speakers both local as well as international speakers from Singapore and Vietnam, are Bunn Nagara from the Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS), Professor Abu Bakar Osman from University Malaya (UM), Raghunath Kesavan, the former president of the Bar Council, Malaysia and Tran Huu Duo Min, from the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam.
