Taipei, July 15 (CNA) A depression located in the South China Sea developed into a tropical storm on Saturday afternoon but will not affect Taiwan, the Central Weather Bureau said.
As of 2 p.m. Saturday, Tropical Storm Talas was centered at 16.7 degrees north and 111.7 degrees east, or about 1,100 kilometers southwest of Taiwan, and moving west-northwesterly at a speed of 14 kilometers per hour, according to the bureau.
With a radius of 100 kilometers, the storm was carrying maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour, with gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour as it moved toward southern Hainan Province and northern Vietnam, the CWB said.
The weather in Taiwan next week is still expected to be hot, with thunderstorms likely in the afternoon, the bureau said.
